ARTIST BIO
Ulises Alvarado is an artist specializing in traditional artwork in addition to digital animation, born and raised in the United States of America within the state of Illinois by Mexican immigrants. Having been inspired by both domestic & foreign media such as cartoons, comics, and feature films, his work aims to cover a wide variety of styles and mediums. Heavily detailed & realistic portraits or simplified & stylized renders characterize his range, be it on paper or on a screen. Despite the Pandemic of 2020, he received his Associate of Arts degree from the College of Lake County, going on to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Northern Illinois University. It was here he gained experience with various industry standards such as Autodesk Maya, Blender, & Adobe products, as well as different mediums like Oil Painting, Charcoal, & Printmaking; all of which makes for a versatile workflow and allows experimentation within his work.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Just as there are all sorts of different people, places, and encounters throughout anybody’s life, I strive to experience as many different artistic mediums and styles as possible- from charcoal and oil paints to digital pen strokes and polygon modeling. My works vary from sculpture and physical craft to that of digital renders and videos, all in the pursuit of making art. Above all else, I want to utilize the vast amount of mediums I’ve dabbled in to tell stories and capture moments of my imagination to share with people.
Considering the inspirations behind my artistic endeavors are primarily animation, comics/graphic novels, and video games, I aim to create works mainly focused in these areas. Despite this designated focus, I still love to experiment and enjoy working on all sorts of other projects like logo design or more conceptual work.
