ARTIST BIO

Kaab Mustafa is a Chicago based multimedia artist whose work aims to capture the culmination of memories, visceral emotion, and internal conflict through impactful visuals that stick within a viewer's memory. Whether it is through illustration, 2D animation, photography, and more, he aims to craft works that

Whether the work is through more traditional means or digitally, Kaab Mustafa allows the “grit” of his pieces to shine through with his use of rough and scratchy lines, those of which strike a balance between detailed renderings and charged abstraction. His work also focuses heavily on creating a distinct tone and visual style using the lessons learned from his wide array of influences. From musicians, video games, painters, filmmakers, and photographers, he mixes them together with his own energetic flare.

Kaab Mustafa is an alumnus of Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, Illinois. He has dedicated himself to honing his technical drawing and layout skills to tell compelling stories through more visuals means. In his later years of university, he began translating these skills into 2D animation, 3D sculpting, and video arts, all of which were for him to expand his scope and add other mediums in which he can effectively tell a story.

ARTIST STATEMENT

How much of a story do you really need to tell? When it comes to creating artwork, I believe that telling the audience only what they need to know can go a long way. That being said, without visual impact, you can’t keep an audience captivated in the work. I strive to achieve a level of “grit,” with my works, showing off the rough edges and then recontextualizing them with the stories I want to create. My goal is to create artwork that retools my deepest emotions, then, breaks them down into the most essential and impactful elements to convey them through a variety of mediums. Whether that is digital, physical, or through time arts, I aim to create a body of work that is distinctly “mine.”
