ARTIST BIO

Nicholas Grdina is an Illinois based Time Artist, honing his skills in illustration, video editing, and animation for over ten years. He takes inspiration from nearly every facet of life that gets thrown at him, from music to nature to even mythology to create illustrations and animations that are both chaotic yet coherent.

With a start in traditional art mediums, Nicholas Grdina employs numerous visual elements in his works, such as his affinity for rough and sketch-like line art and the use of paper textures to give his work a more tangible feeling. He combines traditional visual elements with the vibrant colors of digital works to create distinct 2D images and video.

Nicholas Grdina is an alumnus of Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois. He began refining his illustration skills as a freshman, and became truly proficient in video and animation work in his sophomore and junior years of university.

ARTIST STATEMENT

My work is both the culmination of my experiences and interests from throughout my life. From the shows I’ve watched, to the places I’ve been to, to the smallest and most minute details I’ve noticed, everything inspires me to create. I started off creating primarily 2D pieces, but over time, I have begun to create 3D works as an expansion of my abilities.

The hybridization of 2D and 3D mediums was a natural evolution of my work, as I have worked on projects in both styles of animation, but I have yet to combine them together. This causes intimate knowledge of my proficiencies to be turned on their head to further challenge my abilities as an artist. I will challenge myself not only to create professional quality work, but to break past what I consider my limits..
