ARTIST BIO
Kat Young is an Illinois based multimedia artist with a deep hunger translating her view of humanity through her art and learning a myriad of mediums to do so. Having been a part of the artistic sphere for most of her life, especially as a musician, she takes inspiration from just about every facet of it in hopes to create works that satiate that need to succeed.
She started out a traditional artist specializing in the replication of realism and form through her charcoal and graphite works. Later in her college education, she expounded on her love for the form movement into her visual works, constantly experimenting on the different languages animation and video uses to portray that.
Kat Young is an alumnus of Illinois Central College in Peoria, Illinois and Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, Illinois. There, she began her foundational study and refinement in physical media, before transferring to Dekalb to pursue a newfound appreciation for the digital arts. Her work utilizes a variety of techniques and programs in order to fully visualize her art, and she is always aiming to expand her scope of capabilities to do so.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Kat Young creates art to explore the different facets of the art world and fully realize the ideas she’s imagined. She often explores the experience of living, finding various ways to show meaningful stories in a digestible way. She ranges from traditional media like ink and paintings, to digital ones such as 2D and 3D animation. Beginning with a strong foundation in traditional media, she began expanding her creative language and horizons, as well as compositional skills to programs such as Blender, Maya Autodesk, Photoshop, Adobe Premiere, Illustrator, and Adobe InDesign, with a brief experiment into the world of visual programming such as TouchDesigner.
