Artist Statement:
As a first-generation immigrant from Thailand, art is my way of expressing creativity and connecting with people from diverse backgrounds. I want my work to resonate with others while also serving functional purposes, such as in business. My name is Tanya Chanprung, and I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts and minor in Marketing’s at Northern Illinois University, expecting to graduate in December 2025. My artistic practice spans various mediums, including drawing, painting, digital art, tufting, photography, and short video content. I find peace in creating, bringing my vision to life while advocating for equality and empowerment in the 21st century.
My biggest inspiration is my parents, who showed bravery and perseverance in building a life in a new country. My mother, in particular, has demonstrated incredible strength by running our family restaurant from the ground up, inspiring my interest in the intersection of art and business. Additionally, the artist Manuela Soto Sosa influences my work with her bold, empowering depictions of women. Her style aligns with my own approach celebrating confidence, femininity, and cultural identity.
As I continue my studies, I strive to push my creative boundaries and use my art to bring awareness to social issues, challenge perspectives, and inspire others.
